Mood disorders are conditions that impact a person’s ability to function with consistency in mood ranging from depressive to irritable or manic emotions. One may experience extreme sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness accompanied by a variety of physical, emotional and cognitive symptoms.

What does treatment look like?

Generally, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the front line treatment used to treat mood and anxiety disorders to be able to identify, understand and modify negative belief systems as well as behaviors. Exposure therapy is used to treat anxiety disorders which involves gradually exposing the individual to feared situations, in order to overcome anxieties that are getting in the way of life. It is helpful to maintain consistent therapy to learn coping skills for when mood shifts, life changes and high or low periods occur. Research shows effectiveness often times in pairing psychotherapy with medication management as most helpful with mood or anxiety disorders, however we will approach and tailor each treatment plan to each individuals needs.
